Roskilde Cathedral is inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list. It is a unique and beautiful medieval cathedral. The Viking kings Harold Bluetooth (d. 985) and his son, Sweyn Forkbeard (d. 1014) conqueror of England is buried here. The grey lighthouse was built in 1858 and with its 46 m it is Denmarks second tallest. The spiral staircase leads up to the external balcony. Experience a historic time when you visit the Old Town Hall in Ribe, take a guided tour around in the historic rooms and listen to the horrendous stories! Ribe’s old Town Hall was built before 1496, and has been used as the town’s city hall from 1708 until 2007, when the last town councillor meeting was held. On the walls in old Commoner’s hall hang a collection of portraits of vassals and councillors from 1600-1900. The former debtors prison has been converted to a museum about the laws and statutes in Ribe. Stories are told about town halls, town gates and commerce. At Lindholm Høje, you will see one of Scandinavia’s best-preserved Viking findings – dug out from a thick layer of sand which has kept the secrets of Lindholm Høje for thousands of years. Lindholm Høje exhibits burial sites from both the Germanic Iron Age and the Viking Age. A total of 682 graves and 150 stone ships have been found on the site. North of the burial site was a village where remains of houses, fences and walls have been discovered. The area was severely troubled by sand drift, and around the year 1000, the sand completely covered the burial site, thereby preserving the stone circles as well as a freshly ploughed field, which can now be investigated by archaeologists and visitors at Lindholm Høje. Visitors arriving in Esbjerg from the sea are greeted by Svend Wiig Hansen’s monumental sculpture "Man meets the Sea", which was raised on the occasion of Esbjerg celebrating its 100th anniversary as an independent municipality in 1994. If you visit Sofi ero Castle Park in May or June you will be met by a magnifi cent sight of more than 10,000 rhododendron bushes in full bloom - enough to amaze anyone.
